The future of the Phoenix site has been a controversial issue for the past 5-6 years, with the plans of the previous developer having both fervent supporters and strong critics.
The local Council did conduct a 'visioning' process in 2006 but this was never completed. The impetus for this survey was the collapse of the previous bid, when the Lewes Community Land Trust took the opportunity to take the townspeoples' views into account for any future development, in a sense taking on and updating from where the Council had left off.
